The holiness of being human, Maryam and Mary stood beneath the same endless rain, their black veils heavy with sorrow, their halos glowing like the last two candles in a world that had misplaced its faith. One carried the story of a miraculous birth; the other, the burden of a son whose destiny would become humanityโs favorite argument. Both were mothers before they became symbols, women before history dressed them in holiness. They knew the same hunger, the same fear, the same sleepless nights spent wondering whether love could protect a child from a world determined to hurt him. Yet centuries later, people would argue over whose holiness was greater, as though heaven were a competition and God an exhausted judge keeping score. Beneath them, pale faces emerged from the rain like forgotten souls, their expressions quiet, their suffering unremarkable. Perhaps they were the ordinary people for whom miracles rarely arrived on time. Maryam and Mary watched the world below. Empires rose, temples multiplied, and men fought wars in the names of the sacred women who had never asked for any of it. The rain kept falling. Neither woman spoke. What was there to say? Humanity had turned their suffering into scripture, their tenderness into doctrine, and their children into banners for arguments that outlived generations. Perhaps holiness was never about being worshipped. Perhaps it was about enduring the unbearable without surrendering the last fragile piece of love. And perhaps the greatest joke of all was that humanity could recognize a miracle in a virgin birth, yet struggle to recognize the humanity in its neighbor. So Maryam and Mary remained beneath the rain, two mothers beneath two halos, watching the world drown in its own certainty. Heaven, apparently, had sent humanity enough signs. Humanity was still busy arguing over the spelling of the divine.
